She started her career as Public Relations Director for Parfionova, a leading fashion house in Russia, producing runway shows and developing industry partnerships. After graduate studies in Management of Cultural Projects at Sorbonne University, Paris, Elena joined the international B2B fashion guide Modem and Modemonline.com. As an Editor of Modem Europe, she developed relationships with organizers of fashion weeks and industry trade shows in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Georgia, Scandinavia, Russia and the USA.
After relocating to the Bay Area from Paris in 2013, Elena managed the international relations and expansion into US market for Premium Berlin. She consulted with fashion startups on international business development, and was a featured speaker on Fashion Wearable Tech at Silicon Valley conferences.
This talk will cover wearables in regards to the integration of fashion and technology. The first part will be an exploration of the fashion industry, as a system for designing, producing and distributing clothing and accessories, followed by "insider hints" highlighting how to collaborate with a fashion company. The second part will cover the advanced technologies used to build wearable fashion. An overview of MEMS (motion, position, environmental and capture) sensors and cloud messaging / wireless connectivity with code samples for iOS & Android. We will provide a review of the current market and a detailed evaluation of Google wearables (Glass, Project Jacquard & Soli). This will be contrasted to using a smart phone (Apple M7 chip) as a wearable device. We will provide a real world example of placing Bluetooth LE connected MEMS devices into a shoe which will lead to some surprising capabilities. The talk will culminate by showing how these two industries co-evolve and the different forms these collaborations can take. We will discuss how successful companies are designing, producing and marketing wearables, and analyze the current and potential customer. We will explore an exciting idea of the internet of caring things: connected objects and accessories to improve health and provide safety. The section will end by discussing visionaries, forecasting future trends and the role of media (the importance of early adopters and opinion leaders in the wearable ecosystem).
