Speaking Sessions

  • Clean Code: Homicidal Maniacs Read Code, Too

    11:15 AM Saturday   Room: 4306
There's no such thing as a write-once application. The world is constantly changing, and our code needs to change with it. We'll think in small pieces and take a look at some principles and techniques that will keep our code manageable and understandable. Think about the developer who will come after you. Now, imagine that he's a homicidal maniac who knows where you live. Examples will be in C#, but the principles apply to pretty much every programming language.

  • Learn to Love Lambdas (C#)

    1:45 PM Saturday   Room: 4301
Lambda expressions can be confusing the first time you walk up to them. But once you get to know them, you’ll see that they are a great addition to your toolbox. Used properly, they can add elegance and simplicity to your code. And some .NET constructs (such as LINQ) lend themselves to lambda expressions. We’ll take a look at how lambda expressions work and see them in action. No specific experience is required (but some .NET is helpful).

  • Community, Career and You: a Microsoft MVP Panel

    3:30 PM Saturday   Room: 4221
No person survives as an island, and no career grows spontaneously. In this session, we will discuss how to strategically grow your professional opportunities by participating in technical communities. Whether an open source, cross-platform, .NET, iOS, Android or Linux developer (or all of the above), this panel will let you tap into the real-world experiences of Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs). You will also learn about what it takes to receive and benefit from the MVP Award, and how to get started with the MVP Mentor program. Raucous (or at least mildly amusing) stories guaranteed.
